BUSH'S AND OBAMA'S ADMINISTRATION: WILL THERE BE ANY CHANGE?

Nobody could believe that it would happen. Likewise, had it been that we have read it, it is now a reality. It’s no longer a dream, a myth, or a fallacy. It was yestarday, the 20th day of January, 2009, when and where impossibilities turned into possiblities. For it was a historical day, date, and year, where the first black African, in person of Barrack Hussain Obama, was sworn-in as the 44th American president. It was really a massive turn-out pf people from every nooks and crannies of the world to the city of Washington for witnessing the historical event.

With the exception of the former American president, John F. Kennedy, Obama has enjoyed and indeed is enjoying an unprecedented support of Americans. With a black man and African by origin occupying the white house as an American president, certainly and without any iota of doubt a new chapter has now been opened in the political history of America, in particular, and the world in general. And to this end, we are saying kudos to the late Martins Luther King (jnr) who fought against racism and the liberation of the blacks in America. This is because the dream he had for many years has now turned into reality. Wherein he dreamt that there would be a day in which a black and a white man will eat in the same plate, marry each other and react with each other.

Today, all the blacks, not only in America but also across the world, are jubilating for seeing their black counterpart steering the executive powers of America and Americans. To them (blacks), this is a clear indication of putting into finality the long-aged racism in America. To cut the long story short, the African countries, including his (Obama) country of origin, that is Kenya, are left with their arm in akimbo, awaiting him (Obama) with alacrity to see what positive changes could he brought to them.

However, the African countries seems to have forgotten or wittingly ignored the fact that Obama was not elected by the Africans but rather by the Americans. As such and with greatest respect to such unreasonable expectations by the Africans, what Obama can only do Africa and Africans is nothing more than what his predecessors has done of financial assistance whenever the need arises.

Surely, obama will be facing numerous challenges, such as; the current economic crises, international politics, security and peace of the world, putting things in order in the middle-east, and above all, regaining the lost prestige of America during the time of Bush (Jnr).

Although, in his speeches, after taken the oath of office, Obama has promised to repatriate all the Americans soldiers that are currently on mission in Iraq as well as shutting down the guantanamo-bay. These tallies with what he had promised in the course of his campaigning. He went further and communicated to the world by saying that America is and will remain to be a friend to all nations and he gave his word of assurance to the world that there will be a good and cordial relationship in this kind of friendship with the whole world in general and the muslims countries in particular. One interesting thing with his speech was the way and manner he successfully distinguished himself from people like Bush (Jnr) by saying that they will be definitely remembered by people upon what they have built not upon what they have destroyed. This is whole heartedly welcomed by Americans and the whole world, for they hate to be taken back to where they were in the era of their former president Bush (Jnr). But, the main question is how could he achieve those ambitions and promises? Certainly, there is a high need for president Obama to know who is who to go with in his administration. The right thinking people and the people with a foresight and high caliber are, without any doubt, the right persons Obama should go with.

However, the most devastating thing is how the American secretary of state, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, came openly few days before their inauguration and commended the barbarity and brutality of Israel over the inhabitant of Gaza. That commendation of her was really really unbecoming. She ought to have sympathized with the innocent people of Gaza, condemned the inhuman acts of Israel and shown her readiness to contribute immensely on how to tackle the absence of peace in Gaza without any fear or favour whatsoever. I may be right if I say that people like Hillary Clinton are likely to bring obstacles in this current administration of Obama. To crown it all, all eyes are now on Obama to see how can he face and tackle what is currently happening in Gaza. Contrariwise, many people are of the view that the world will experience no changes during the reign of Obama, because wherever he is, an American is an American and carries along with him an American policy(ies). Now, the one million dollars question is “will Obama be a man in a million and deliver the goods?” expecially taking into consideration the absence of cordial relationship between America and the majority of the rest of the world during the draconian tenure of Bush (Jnr) in office.

Whatever the case may be, only time can prove (within his first year in office) whether Obama can take Americans and the world to the promise land.
